TEF Canada Preparation for Canada PR
This is not just about points. It is about which life becomes possible.
French proficiency in Express Entry adds up to 56 bonus CRS points. For most Indian applicants stuck between 450 and 490, those points are the difference between waiting indefinitely and receiving an Invitation to Apply within months.
But the bigger unlock is the second pathway. French proficiency makes you eligible for French-language draws, which run with cutoffs 50 to 100 points below the general pool. Candidates who would never be invited through the main draw receive their PR through the francophone stream instead.
NCLC 7 minimum in all four skills.
- NCLC = Niveaux de competence linguistique canadiens. Canada’s official French benchmark used by IRCC. The French equivalent of CLB for English.
- NCLC 5: Partial CRS bonus. Basic French points. Entry threshold for Express Entry
- NCLC 7: Up to 56 CRS points. Maximum bonus. Francophone draw eligible. Target for most students.
- NCLC 9: Same points, bigger door. Francophone streams with cutoffs 50-100 points below general pool
What clearing NCLC 7 actually opens
- Express Entry Invitation to Apply - faster than the English draw for most applicants
- Francophone immigration streams with lower CRS cutoffs
- Quebec Skilled Worker Program - separate from Express Entry entirely
- Federal bilingual job roles - higher pay bands, more openings
- Your children study in French schools free of charge in francophone provinces
- Citizenship application stronger with demonstrated bilingualism
What TEF Canada aspirants ask.
I have zero French background. Can I still reach NCLC 7?
Yes, but the timeline is longer - typically 9 to 12 months from zero. Book a 20-minute call and Vinay will tell you a realistic timeline based on your exact starting point and your test date target.
What is the difference between TEF Canada and TCF Canada?
Both are accepted by IRCC for Express Entry. TEF Canada has more test centres across India. TCF Canada is slightly shorter in format. Vinay coaches for both. The preparation approach is the same - both tests assess the same four skills.
Can I take sessions from Canada, UAE or the UK?
Yes. All TEF and TCF Canada sessions are online. Students join from India, UAE, Qatar, Canada, UK and Australia. Sessions are built around your time zone.
How long are TEF Canada results valid?
Two years from your test date. Make sure your Express Entry profile is active and ready to submit before they expire. This is worth planning for on the call.
